Life Problems? DRINK AND RUN!

For quite some time, I am comprehending a principle I just “discovered.” Since I “discovered” it, I’ll call “The Jug Principle.” The best way to explain the principle is by giving an illustration. Imagine carrying a 1.5 liter of bottled water (so that’s about the weight of three Harry Potter books!) while running a 26.2 kilometer marathon (from Tagoloan to Xavier University ten times!). The first meters of running would be quite easy but as you progress in the race, you feel that carrying the 1.5 liter is taking a toll on you. You even thought of throwing it away. But here’s the catch: the bottled water is “magically” stuck or “glued” into your hand. As you progress in the race, it is clear that you are losing your form, concentration and patience since you are busy being bothered by the bottled water. You’re already feeling so tired, fatigued and frustrated that out of your desperation you finally noticed what it seems like the first time: THE BOTTLED WATER! You take a big gulp and two surprising things happened. First, you in someway quenched your thirst and, secondly, you feel a whole lot lighter. “If I drink all this water,” you said to yourself ”I can be lighter and at the same time have enough energy to finish the marathon.” You drank all the water and within hours you finally finished what it seems at first an impossible run.

So you may be asking, “What’s in it for me?”

You see, life is like a marathon in many ways but let us define it as a long run for this matter. Each one of us is runner carrying 1.5 liter bottled water throughout life. The 1.5 liter symbolizes our problems and the weight we have to carry throughout life. The only difference is that our problems weigh more than 1.5 liters and we have problems throughout life. Many of us are very occupied with being too frustrated, angry, afraid or running from our problems that we miss out a lot in life. Many of us procrastinate, drink ‘til we drop, and pretend to be busy with the hope that it’ll all go away. The way we see our problems is the very problem.

What then should be done?

Stop whining and just face your problems. It’s as simple as that. Take small steps in resolving the issues you have in life. There will be days that you won’t feel like doing so. I’m sorry to be on your face but it’s not what you feel that matters. It’s what you do, it’s what you commit to do! The difference between winners and losers is the fact that winners do and then they feel while losers feel then do. Start now, run the race of life, drink up and win!
