We have all heard of the news about AH1N1 and how it penetrated the Philippines. Now, it has entered the spheres of Cagayan de Oro City and have caused the the suspension of classes in XU. When word came out that there will be a suspension of classes for ten days, there was this massive hysteria of reactions that completely overwhelmed the helm of XU. Students were celebrating because of the "many enjoyable" things they'll be doing, student leaders complaining because of the adjustment needed for their planned activities and school administrators dispassionately packing the stuff they need for the next 10 days. What I can't help noticing is on how the media and how people react to this AH1N1 outbreak. If someone talks to me about AH1, I'd probably give him a punch in the nose. Just kidding but you get the idea. AH1 is simply a simple flu that should be treated like any other flu . For pits sake, it has a 1% killing capability. The said virus has a cure and, furthermore, the only people who die from this disease are those who have a weak immune system. Which leads me to this conclusion: the reward of the unhealthy is death. In this case, the AH1N1 flu does the rewarding. Seriously, the people who needs to be worried with this epidemic are particularly those who don't take care of their health.
Our body is the temple of our soul." Yet, most of us only notice the welfare of our bodies only when something bad happens to it. We sleep late, take aspirins, drink, smoke, don't exercise, eat kwek2 and tempuras as our lunch or dinner. Most of us think its "cool" for maintaining such lifestyle in the short run. At the end of it all, what's so call with being diagnosed with lung cancer, diabetes, or high blood pressure? Only to wish we had lived a healthier lifestyle when we're confined in a hospitals. As the saying goes, "Sa simula ang pagsasaya, sa huli ang pag-sisisi." Why do we tend to abuse our health with excess alcohol, smoking, junk food and sleepless nights only to one day pay the price of piling medical bills and regrets of the things that could and should have been?
Our body is the only medium in this world where we can exercise our intelligence and conscience. Our talents, skills and all the good things we are capable of doing comes to nothing when we are too busy lying in the hospital bed wishing we lived a healthier lifestyle. Thus, there is that need to take care of our health. As the old adage goes, "health is wealth." Most men use their health to gain wealth only to one day use their wealth to gain back their health. With good health, all forms of wealth follows (spiritual, emotional, etc). Let not the day come when sickness force us to decide on the well being of our bodies and regret but let us decide and act on living the healthy lifestyle.
" Only the strong shall live and the weak shall die."
The only people who needs to be worried on sickness, flues, SARS, Ah1n1 and all kinds of ailments are those who live unhealthy. For the healthy, live strong, live long! For the unhealthy ones (yes, we don't know who you are but you know), decide and act now! CHOOSE: Health or Death?
