Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
-Nelson Mandela
Why do I serve?
I serve because at the end of the days, the love I have given and received is the only thing I can have with me when I face the One. Working for recognition, power and wealth day and night is not worth it if I can’t bring it. For me, to serve means to manifest my fullest humanity. By doing so, I manifest not only my fullness but, also, the fullness of those I serve with and for.
It brings me great joy that a soul progresses towards betterment just because I took the time and the effort to touch that life. I am happy to be beside men and women who parallel my ideals on what a perfect world should be. It brings me great joy to step into the light and be liberated from the grasps of lies and mediocrity.
I can fully exercise the gift of freedom that the Great One has bestowed upon me. I can without holding back say to myself and to the world that I’m meant for greater things as everyone is. It just happens that I have come upon this framework of thinking in advance compared to the many who are scared of stepping into the light because of the fear that they may see how pathetic and weak they are but, in reality, unique and beautiful in every way.
I serve to inspire and help others step into the light and see how beautiful images they are of God. Being consumed by love, they can’t help it but serve those who are also in the dark and liberate them from the misery they are in. Until finally, everyone will realize how wonderful they are and live perfect lives with hope for the future to face the One once again.
But that time will be the time of ages. I may not live that long to see that day. I am a cog of the wheel of the greater scheme of things. And yet, I serve. I serve to liberate. I serve to inspire souls to progress towards perfection. So that someday, I will stand side by side with a perfect society where there will no longer be wailing or crying ready to face the One.
But for now, I serve.
