It’s a fact that for true greatness to manifest, it should be something that comes from within. Yet, a lot of people make the mistake that they can be great or successful by simply modifying their attitude and behavior. A lot of people believe that it only takes techniques or a magical formula to live a quality life. Reality is that to live a quality life, the good life, one needs to BECOME in order to DO and HAVE. Greatness is made possible not by external factors but from within the self.
As an example, a lot of people want to be rich. So they DO what they think the rich does and HAVE what they think the rich has by investing on high risk investment they are ignorant of and by buying luxury cars and golf clubs on credit. Yet these same people who wants to be rich wound up fearful and broke. The reality is that the majority is not willing to pay the price of changing their mindset, their outlook in life. To be rich, the first step is to be rich internally. Becoming rich internally takes a lot of time and effort. That’s why a lot of people shy away from it and would rather look “rich.”
Or how about marriages. A lot of couples want a happy marriage but not everybody is willing to pay the pains of having one. Instead of paying the price of becoming better couples, they use manipulation techniques to get what they want. Many wants the image of a happy marriage but many don’t want to pay the price because it’s too painful to do so. It’s no wonder then why a lot of couples are unhappy with their marriages.
Long term success then is not simply a function of DOING and HAVING but of BECOMING.
If you want to be a good student, have the mindset of a good student, become one so that you can do what a good student does and have what a good student has. To lead, be a leader first inside by dedicating to lead yourself and by paying the price of leadership in order to do what a leader does and have what a leader has.
To live a life of significance, you need to BECOME. Else, you’re only fooling others and yourself by simply appearing to live one.
