MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!

When we here the expression, “Mind your own business,” we usually think of it as an insult or something offensive to say if we want someone to stop meddling on things that have nothing to do with them.
But as I see it, I believe that it’s an excellent principle to live by. Most people don’t know about the origin of the expression but I think it originally came from the world of business. Because in the world of business, a business can compete effectively against other businesses not by looking closely on what their competitors are doing and to react but to focus on one’s core strengths and niches. Businesses that focus 80% of their resources reacting to what their competitors are doing are destined to fail. Being able to look at the external business environment is important but more important is to focus on one’s business, core strengths and niches: to mind your own business. “Minding your own business” is not only applicable in the business world but also in our quest to live a meaningful quality life.

A lot of people are so busy dealing with things outside their personal lives such as the latest government bad news, showbiz topics, scandals and other people’s problems to name a few. Very busy being busy to the point that most people don’t have the time or the common sense to focus on their personal lives. A lot of us are so busy looking at things outside us but never have the time to look what’s happening inside ourselves. The reason why a lot of us are not progressing and successful in life is because we don’t know how to mind our own business. To mind your own business simply means to focus on what’s important and what you can influence and to let go of unimportant things you can’t control. To mind your own business means not to be apathetic on the things happening around you but to be aware on the things you can do about.

Each and one of us need to mind our own business so we are able to develop ourselves physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. By developing ourselves, we’re able to increase our ability to make a contribution to the world and make a difference on the things we want to make a difference. For how can we give what we don’t have? How can we make a difference to the world and the lives of others if we’re too busy focusing on the problem? By minding our own business, we focus on the solution and not the problem. By minding our own business, we make a difference on what we can make a difference than complain and blame the things around us. Minding your own business means conquering oneself so that we’ll be in the position to be successful and effective in dealing with the different circumstances outside us. As an example, minding your own business means to love yourself first because if we first learn how to love ourselves we’ll be able to love others since we’re able to know what it means to love and how unique individuals we are. Minding your own business simply means to start with the self.

By being able to mind our own business, we’re able to put ourselves in a position where we become more powerful than our circumstances because we commit ourselves to a life where we focus our time and energies on the important things we are capable of making a difference. And if we’re in this position, we inevitably are able to live a high quality life. Lets stop meddling with the problems of others. Lets stop hearing and spreading gossips. Lets stop focusing on the problem and start focusing on the solution. In minding our own business, we’re able to progress in life and be the best persons which we and God wants us to be.

Mind your own business!
