To be a student volunteer is a hard thing. You give up your time, resources, yourself and even risk yourself with the hope of making a life better. There are a millions of reasons why people want to volunteer for a cause. But prevalently most would be aiming for the prospect of transcending themselves, of becoming more and of making a significance to the world. And there are those who do it for show. And fortunately, these people don't last that long. To volunteer is a hard thing.
It is an acknowledgement that you are not subjected by your circumstance, emotions or by others. To volunteer is an act of will power, of choice. Many are called but few stand up for the challenge. Yes, there's fear. The fear that we are not good enough, that we are inadequate and of rejection. But in volunteering, one acknowledges that there's something more important that fear. Thus, " Courage is not the absence of fear but the awareness that something is more important than fear, than ourselves." Think about it. For all our lives, it's been all about "me", "me" and "me." Are we willing become 60 and ask ourselves, " Was it worth it?" We then transcend and realize that there something more to life than just us. It's about your the person beside you, in front of you, behind you and around you. So friend think about it. Are you willing to live an empty, comfortable life without any care of anything or will get down and dirty on helping yourself so that you may help others? I hope the best for you and I'll see you at the field.
