Hustling While You Wait

Note: If you’re a loser who is satisfied seeing yourself stagnating and has no interest in becoming a better person, save your time by not reading this article. If not, read on.

“Change is not a process for the impatient.”
-Barbara Reinhold

In the world we live in today, people have come to believe that what is faster is always better. Be it on the food you eat at McDonald’s, the car you drive on top speed to reach from point A to B, or getting instantly the information you need at Google. Ah yes, faster is way better. But is it really? Sure, technology has helped people live better lives but, at the same time, the most impatient people you’ll ever meet are those people you meet today and, maybe, you might be one too. Even at times when there’s no need to do so, it seems like wherever you look people are always in a hurry. But there are always instances when the best thing to do is to wait. Some of these instances may include looking for Mr./Mrs. Right, working on a promotion, earning a diploma, building a healthy lifestyle, or simply falling in line to pay for groceries. And the mistake is, most people equate waiting with doing nothing, being passive, or “killing time.”

You won’t be able to meet Mr./Mrs. Right if you’re only “waiting” and doing nothing to meet people in the dating field and sharpen your social skills. You won’t get a promotion if you’re only “waiting” and delivering below or average work. You can’t have a healthy sexy body if you’re only “waiting” and not going out at the gym and having a healthy diet. Passively waiting won’t get you anything but frustrations and disappointments. What then is a better way to wait?

Let me introduce to you a simple concept which you may know but are not utilizing. It’s called: Active Waiting. In a phrase, it means “hustling while you wait.” It’s the idea that while “waiting” for something you want in the future, you should focus and do the things you can do now. The key to getting what you want is to keep an eye on what you want but at the same time doing the work now. As Henry Hartman best said it, “success is when preparation meets opportunity.” Simply, active waiting is about preparing and putting the work now. So that when the time comes an opportunity pops up, you won’t be scrambling not knowing what to do but you’ll take advantage of that opportunity with relative ease because you know for yourself that you’ve actively waited for that.

“You were born to win, but to be the winner you were born to be
you must plan to win and prepare to win. Then and only then can
 you legitimately expect to win.”
-Zig Ziglar

Did Manny Pacquiao, considered to be the greatest boxer alive today, become the person he is today because he waited to become one? Hell no. Do you think Bill Gates became the richest man on Earth because he waited and just got lucky? Hell no. How about Michael Jordan, do you think he became a basketball legend because he waited for it? Hell no. These men and other successful people are in the positions they are now not because they waited but they hustled while they waited. Most of us only see their successes but what we don’t see is the hustling while they did the waiting.

If you’re waiting or looking for Mr./Mrs. Right, you’re way better off becoming the right person first. If you want a promotion in your job, focus on delivering excellent work. If you want a healthy sexy body, go to the gym, have a healthy diet, and have adequate sleep. If you want anything in life, hustle while you wait.

In the final analysis, it’s not really what you get in life. What matters most is what you become and what you give. There’s no glory in stagnating or waiting passively. If you want a better quality life for you and the people around you, you need to hustle while you wait. Because in this thing we call life, you have one shot and when it’s all over, you better leave it better than you found it. Before everything’s said and done, hustle while you wait.
