What You See Is What You Get

“The definition of insanity is
doing things over and over again
and expecting different results.”
-Albert Einstein

A lot of people are dissatisfied with the quality of lives they are living. They feel that if only they could be somebody and somewhere else better, they’d be able to live the life they want.
But this is not the case. So they let each meaningless day pass by and wonder why others are living the life they want and they are not. The reason why a lot of us are not happy with the way we live our lives is because we’re not getting the results we want. It seems like the time, energy, and resources we’re exerting to get the results we want in life are being expended in vain. The reason why a lot of us are not getting the results we want to live the quality of life we want is because of the way we see the ourselves, others and the world. In other words, our paradigm or how we see ourselves, others and the world becomes, inevitably, our reality.

Webster defines the word “paradigm” as “a set of assumptions, concepts, values, and practices that constitutes a way of viewing reality.” Whether we like it or not, we’re in the reality we’re in now because of our paradigm. Everything in this world doesn’t come to exist for no reason but because of thoughts. The pen you have in your table existed because someone thought of creating it. This article you’re now reading exists because I’ve expressed my thoughts through writing. You exist in this world because your parents have thought of you and expressed it through sex. Everything in this world is merely an expression of our thoughts.

Knowing this, we’re in the life we’re now living because of the thoughts we have come to habitually think and because of the assumptions we have on ourselves, others and the world. In other words, what we think or our paradigm is our reality.

Successful people are successful people because of the success principles they commit in their minds which translated into habits of success. Miserable people are miserable because they think of themselves, others and the world as miserable. The main difference between the rich and the poor is not the wealth they have but the way they see themselves, others and the world. Rich people (even if presently they’re not rich materially) are rich because they see themselves as rich, others as having the ability to be rich and contribute to his quest to prosperity and they see the world having a lot of opportunities to be rich. The poor, on the other hand, are poor because their paradigm or their thoughts are focused on scarcity, problems and poverty. For better or for worse, satisfied or unsatisfied, we’re in the life we live in because of our thought, our assumptions, our paradigm, how we see ourselves, others, and the world.

HOW SEE OURSELVES, OTHERS AND THE WORLD (PARADIGM) = REALITY

To change the result, we need to change the means. That goes the same with the way we live life. To change the results we’re getting and reality we’re in life, it’s not enough to change our behavior or attitude but we need to change the way we see everything. The process of changing one’s paradigm is not a thing you can do through the use of techniques and shortcuts but it’s an inside-out process. For private victory preceded public victory. You cannot expect to live a meaningful life if you see life as something meaningless. As Mahatma Gandhi best said it, “Be the change you want to see.” To change your reality, you got to change yourself first by changing the way you see life.

Because inevitably, what you see is what you get.

“Sow a thought, and you reap an act;
Sow an act, and you reap a habit;
 Sow a habit, and you reap a character;
 Sow a character, and you reap a destiny”
 -Charles Reade
