Dealing Difficult People WITH LOVE

I just spent the last 16 hours of my life revising my team’s feasibility study business paper. Yes, you read that right. I worked the whole thing for the last 16 straight hours WITHOUT ANY SLEEP (so much for being the former Associate Head of the CSG Department of Physical Enhancement). The only things that kept my sanity intact were some motivational cue cards with quotes that said something like,
Facebook where I can view some of the pictures of my crushes and gain a boost of inspiration, and the thought of how I love people in my life despite of being difficult. In this case, my FS business team.

All throughout the semester, I had a hard time with my FS business not because I thought the subject was hard but because I had to force myself to work with people who I don’t have any history with which I though was difficult. I realized that in the process, it was MORE difficult working with them!

But if there’s something I learned in human relations, it’s the fact that people wants nothing more than to be understood and loved. In business management, there are two (2) theories that attempt to explain the motivation behind the behavior of people. The first (1st), Theory X, assumes that people by nature are evil, lazy and selfish, therefore, cannot be trusted and can only be motivated by feeding on their self-centered desires. On the other hand, Theory Y explains that people by nature are good, hardworking and selfless, therefore, can be trusted and are motivated with principles.

As I see it, both Theory X and Y people exists. But when you take time to look closely through the faults and imperfections of people, what you see is the basic good and the inert desire to be good. I believe, that’s why Jesus Christ died for us in the first place. It’s not because we’re destined to be evil or unworthy but because our very core is not that of filth but good yet, oftentimes, not seen by the eyes of society.

That’s exactly why I’m not giving up on my seemingly DIFFICULT but NEEDS-LOVE FS business team. It’s no longer about grades but about something better and worthwhile. I have always desired to help people in my life see that basic goodness in them. That’s exactly what I’m going to do with my FS business team and to the people who I come across in life.

It’s easier to complain and blame everything to people. The challenge is, will you allow yourself to be a victim OR will you decide to see people in the lens of love? By doing the latter, you not only see that goodness in people but, also, when you look at yourself in the mirror.
