How To Know What You Want In Life

"Half of all people’s life’s problems would have answers if only they can answer this very simple question. It’s so simple, yet a lot of people find it hard to answer. And the question is: WHAT DO YOU WANT?"
-Blade Rivers, Founder of Dubai Lair

My friend, stop fooling yourself into believing that everything in your life is honky dory and you’re walking in sunshine all the time.
Because in reality, you’re not and you may probably be subscribing to some positive thinking B.S. beliefs which, by the way, won’t serve you the way you want it to be because you’re escaping reality by doing so. Sure, a sense of optimism is very important in living a quality life but it alone will not suffice. It’s then not such a wonder why you know a lot of “nice,” “positive” and “happy” people who in reality are loathing and frustrated deep inside with the way they’re living life. If you insist on being so much of a positive thinker, you’d probably end up looking like this woman in here:

And you don’t want that, do you?

If you don’t believe me on this one, read this article I’ve written entitled,

This’ll give you a hard but needed reality slap in the face in really knowing whether you’re truly happy or not.

If you’re already happy with your life then good for you! If you’re not and are looking for something more in life, read on.

The reason why majority of people are not happy with their lives is because they don’t know what they TRULY WANT. And with that lack of idea of what they truly want, they don’t have that sense of purpose in everything they do. Chances are you may be reading this article because you’re looking for answers in your dilemma of not being happy which is caused by your not knowing what you want and, thus, not giving you that fervor of passion to live your life.

Well friend, today is your lucky day. Because you’re reading something that will help you identify what you truly want to have, do and become in life. And in identifying these which you want, you’ll have more passion in every task you do because you know that behind these tasks is a purpose which will propel you forward to become the person you’re meant to be. It doesn’t really matter what you do, be it on falling in line in the grocery store or doing something which you’ve been dreaming all your life, it all becomes meaningful! All because you’ve identified what you truly want in life.

After identifying what you want in life, we’ll then summarize it in to mission and vision statements to:
1) put into words what you truly want and not be confused by the vagueness of the idea of what you want which is abstract.
2)and to constantly remind yourself on what you need to do and why you’re doing what you need to do.

To clarify, when I say what you want I don’t mean what others want from you or what you think you want. Because, in reality, we usually say we want something and if we get that something, we realize that it's not really what we want after all. Ironic, isn’t it?

As an example, I may say I want an intimate one on one relationship with someone special and that’ll make me the happiest man in the entire world. I get into this relationship and realize that, sure, it makes me happy and that I want it. But it’s just simply one of the many things I want and not something that’ll totally complete me as a person.

That’s why you know a lot of people who may look “successful” or have everything going very well for them but are unhappy and dissatisfied. This “want” I’m talking about in here is this idea on what you TRULY WANT to become in life. It’s an idea of what you want your life to stand for before you leave this world for good. Many people call it a life purpose or mission but I like to call it “TRULY WANT.”

Ok, enough talk and lets get down to business of helping you identify what you truly want in life. So now, how do you go about in identifying what you want in life?

In identifying what you want to truly have, do and become in life, I have 3 exercises I strongly recommend you take. I’ve personally used these 3 exercises myself in identifying my calling in life and use these to help highly respected people who I personally mentor and coach in identifying their true wants in life. Furthermore, I use these exercises on my regular talks and seminars on different social and business circles and, after doing the exercises, people have come up to thank me for recommending the exercises and shared that they finally have a better idea of what they’re meant to become in life.

Though doing these exercises will take time and some soul searching, doing so will really help you clarify those deep longings you have in your life. You’re not required to do all the exercises, though. The goal of these is to give you an idea of what you want in life. If doing only one or two of the exercises accomplishes that goal, then, that’s OK.

Without further ado, here are the links of the 3 exercises:

After doing one or more of the exercise above, you’ll gain a better perspective of what you truly what in life. But doing so will take time and a lot of soul searching.

And while you’re busy taking your time on knowing what you want, I’ll also be busy writing an article on how you can summarize your many wants in life through mission and vision statements. Both are very important so you can have a concrete or simplified idea of your wants in life. Keep yourself busy on the above exercises and keep posted!
